Submission for Doctoral Consortium
Unlike other conference submissions, a Doctoral Consortium submission pertains specifically to the PhD thesis as a whole or part thereof (hereafter both will be termed the research work).
Submissions should describe (in 2000-2500 words, approx. 4-5 pages) a research plan, to be executed in a 3-4 year PhD degree-granting program, on a topic related to AI in medicine.
It should include the following elements:
- Title and author (either a single author, where the single author is the PhD student; or PhD student + academic supervisor(s) )
- The research problem, accompanied by an argument on its importance
- The goal and the research questions
- The planned approach and methods for achieving the goal and answering the research questions
- An outline of what is already known about the research problem
- The expected results from the research work, such as overviews, algorithms, better conceptual understanding; or pilot, model or system
- A plan of expected publications originating from the work
- Any questions or problems the PhD student might have encountered, for which they would like feedback during the DC. Examples include:
- Do I need to write a systematic review before I start?
- How should I proceed about X, Y, and Z?
- Where should I consider publishing?
- How should I evaluate my work?
- Which further training activities or courses would serve me best to carry out the planned work successfully?
- Is it normal/expected to meet my supervisor once a week/month/…? Can I reach out to other people/external supervisors for help?
Based on reviews, the Doctoral Consortium chair will select about 6 submissions to be presented and discussed during the meeting. The selection will be based on the relevance to AI in medicine topics (see for example the topic areas for AIME 2026), relevance to the doctoral consortium (e.g. the benefit of presenting already concluded work at the DC is very limited, given the format), and the clarity of writing. Selected submissions will appear in workshop notes that will be distributed among conference participants.
For more information about the Doctoral Consortium please contact the chair, Enea Parimbelli.
Submission: Doctoral Consortium papers (PDF) should be submitted to EasyChair; please use the submit button above.
Participation
Every accepted DC contribution will be assigned two academic mentors to drive the discussion during the Doctoral Consortium. The PhD student will have 15 minutes to present their work, followed by a 15-minute interactive session with feedback from the two assigned mentors, and a chance to discuss directions and have questions answered (30 mins total time slot per DC participant).
Students accepted for the Doctoral Consortium will also be offered participation grants to cover their registration fees for the Consortium and for the main conference. Moreover, the Consortium is open – anybody interested in presentations and discussion is welcome to join in the audience.
